UOW Bradman Foundation Partnership
During 2011 and 2012 Leigh Stewart started broad conversations with The Bradman Foundation with the view of working together with the University of Wollongong. From those discussions a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was entered into to enable both UOW and the Foundation to develop a strong partnership and to work cooperatively and collaboratively on matters to gain mutual benefit for both parties.
The MOU aims to deliver Sir Donald Bradman’s vision in the education and advancement of youth to honour and strengthen the game of cricket. The parties do not intend that this MOU will be legally binding, and acknowledge that separate written agreements will be entered into for specific activities. The parties agreed that the following are initial (but not the only) areas of mutual interest:
- Co-branding and promoting the work of both organisations to the youth of the world through education, school and tertiary curriculum linked programs, cricket and corporate channels;
- UOW exploring the hosting and delivering components of a youth cricket centre of excellence or similar;
- The Foundation utilising the facilities at UOW for its training programs in conjunction with the University Recreation and Aquatic Centre and key UOW faculties, such as research based programs focussing on topics related to training, performance and rehabilitation;
- UOW, through its Sydney Business School, investigating the establishment of Foundation-specific training programs for Foundation players.;
- UOW arranging for all new students and their families, including those from India and other cricket playing countries, to visit the Museum and its facilities in Bowral during UOW orientation.
- The Foundation using its best endeavours to assist UOW medical students in Bowral by providing them with internet access and other facilities on a needs basis, and invitations to participate in forums, video conferencing and guest lectures at both facilities.
- Both parties exploring the establishment of a UOW Bradman Foundation School of Excellence at UOW’s Wollongong, Dubai and Indian campuses;
- The Foundation supported the UOW Stumping Serious Disease cricket match played at UOW, involving current UOW ambassador Adam Gilchrist, and the Foundation’s Bradman Ambassadors, Members and Honourees. This match is organised by UOW which would aim to include coverage through major television networks domestically and internationally. This match supports the work been done in Health and Medical Research by UOW and will promote the importance of the partnership between UOW and the Foundation worldwide;
- Both parties exploring the establishment of the Bradman Scholarship Program at UOW, including a scholar studying at UOW;
This MOU forms the basis of future partnership growth between the UOW and the Bradman Foundation for the mutual benefit of both parties and for the communities which they represent and serve, and will be reviewed on an annual basis.
